EFA Master class: the sound of the image
Source: Filmfestival
The EFA Master Class 2012 THE SOUND OF THE IMAGE is dedicated to the topic of sound in feature films. While the impact of the musical score is widely acknowledged, the psychological effects of sound and noises are still partly unrecognised.
The multi-disciplinary workshop in co-operation with the Film and Television University “Konrad Wolf” (HFF) is equally addressed to European sound editors, sound re-recording mixers and sound designers, but also open to directors, composers and picture editors, who all have a crucial influence on the soundtrack of a film.
The workshop will be offered in a short term training format of seven days including the arrival and departure days. In a mixture of group sessions, screenings, case studies and lectures, but with a focus on hands-on exercises, the workshop will allow participants to gain a profound knowledge of the impact of sound. It focuses also on new aspects of the narrative use of sound, on sound design, editing and mixing, and the question how these influence the audience’s perception of a film. At the same time, the workshop will explore the perspectives new digital technologies open up for the creation of a soundtrack.
Sound re-recording mixer Bruno Tarrière and sound editor Selim Azzazi will act as tutors for the workshop at HFF in Potsdam.
During his career, Bruno Tarrière has held various positions in the field of sound, ranging from sound recording on the set, sound design, recording foley and as sound re-recording mixer. He has worked with various directors around the world, such as Walter Salles, Emir Kusturica, Luc Besson, Sergei Bodrov and Yesim Ustaoglu.
Selim Azzazi has worked as a sound editor for fiction films for over ten years, among his films are, ZIDANE, A 21ST CENTURY PORTRAIT by Douglas Gordon & Philippe Parreno, BABYLON AD by Mathieu Kassovitz, MICMACS by Jean- Pierre Jeunet and BLACK THIRST by Jean-Jacques Annaud, to name but a few.
They have previously collaborated on various projects, among these DIVINE INTERVENTION by Elia Suleiman, BAOBER IN LOVE by Li Shaohong, EARTH AND ASHES by Atiq Rahimi, ALEXANDER by Oliver Stone and THE CONCERT by Radu Mihaileanu.
