Lifetime Achievement Award for Angelo Badalamenti
On the 8th edition of the World Soundtrack Awards, the American composer Angelo Badalamenti will be awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award by Marianne Faithfull. The British singer will hand over the prize during the closing night of the 35th Ghent Film Festival on 18 October. A large part of the evening will be dedicated to the music of Angelo Badalamenti, who in the past collaborated with Marianne Faithfull for the soundtrack of La Cité des Enfants Perdus.

Ghent Film Festival releases ‘For the record: Mychael Danna’
The Ghent Film Festival continues its CD collection For the Record with a compilation of the best film music by Mychael Danna performed by the Brussels Philharmonic (Flemish Radio Orchestra) under the direction of Dirk Brossé. On the album, there is music from a.o. Little Miss Sunshine, Being Julia, The Ice Storm and Capote, Shattered Glass, Where the Truth Lies and Vanity Fair.

Film music seminar with GABRIEL YARED
Gabriel Yared is one of the most prominent and successful composers of his generation. Born in Lebanon, but working and living in Paris, the composer has produced over 70 scores and soundtracks since the beginning of the 1980ies, including music for films by renowned filmmakers such as Jean-Luc Godard, Jean Jacques Annaud and Jean-Jacques Beineix.

The World Soundtrack Academy releases the list of nominees for the World Soundtrack Discovery 2008. The name of the winner will be announced on Saturday, October 18 on the closing evening of the Ghent International Film Festival.

Film music concert with music of composer John Williams
For the 35th edition of the Ghent Film Festival (7-18 October), the Brussels Philharmonic (Flemish Radio Orchestra) will be performing tunes by five-time Oscar winner John Williams. In a career that spans six decades, Williams has composed many of the most famous film scores in history, including Jaws, ET, Harry Potter, Indiana Jones, Star Wars, Superman, Jurassic Park and Schindler’s List. The Brussels Philharmonic will be accompanied by three choirs: the Flemish Radio Choir, the Musa Horti and the Flemish Opera children’s choir.
Gabriel Yared to pay homage to Minghella
For the 35th edition of the Ghent Film Festival (7-18 October), acclaimed composer Gabriel Yared will be honouring director Anthony Minghella, who sadly passed away earlier this year. Yared had been Minghella’s trusted composer for years, penning the scores for The English Patient, Cold Mountain and The Talented Mr Ripley. The concert is a co-production between the Ghent Film Festival and University College Ghent and will be held on 15 October at the Ghent Conservatory of Music.
Clint Mansell and Sonus Quartet in concert
For the 35th edition of the Ghent Film Festival (7-18 October), Clint Mansell and Sonus Quartet will be performing atmospheric tunes from Darren Aronofsky films (Pi, Requiem For A Dream, The Fountain). Like Aronofsky in the film world, Mansell has garnered an immense cult following for his soundtrack work, known for its dark, hypnotic beauty. The concert will be held on 16 October in the theatre hall at the Vooruit.
That’s All Folk!: Kadril performs film music
On Friday 17 October, the Ghent Film Festival will be presenting “That’s All Folk!”, a film music concert by folk rock sensation Kadril at the De Bijloke music centre in Ghent. The programme will include tracks from Brokeback Mountain, Black Cat White Cat, and Walk the Line. Get ready for some arm-swinging, hip-swaying folksy fun, against a backdrop of big screen film clips.
